Evaluations of comprehensive sex education programs show that these programs can help youth delay onset of sexual activity, reduce the frequency of sexual activity, reduce number of sexual partners, and increase condom and contraceptive use. Importantly, the evidence shows youth who receive comprehensive sex education are NOT more likely to become sexually active, increase sexual activity, or experience negative sexual health outcomes. Today, many states and communities are in the process of trying to improve their school sex education policies and practices. Two FoSE resources that can contribute to this process include:
Envisioning the Future of Sex Education: A Tool Kit for States and Communities - a how-to guide to conducting a FoSE-like meeting or summit in your state or community. It includes who to invite, sample agendas and much more.
The Future of Sex Education: A Strategic Framework (Executive Summary) - This resource provides a blueprint for advancing sex education policy and implementation at the national, state and local level. The executive summary is posted here. For copies of the full Strategic Framework please contact one of the FoSE Organizing Partners.
